Celebrating a Legacy: David Dumbaugh Retires After 60 Years of Service
After an extraordinary 60 years serving our community, we are honored to celebrate the retirement of David Dumbaugh.
David graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1958 and went on to attend Mount Vernon Business School. In 1960, he began his insurance career training with Westfield Insurance Company in Westfield Center, Ohio. He later joined Lumberman’s Mutual Insurance in Mansfield.
A Career Rooted in Family & Service
In 1962, David joined his father, Clarence Dumbaugh, at Dumbaugh Insurance Agency. By 1964 David was winning awards for life insurance sales with Colonial Heritage Life Insurance. Just a few years later, in 1965, he opened the Mount Vernon office, laying the foundation for the growth and success of Dumbaugh Insurance as we know it today. The following year, in 1966, David became President of the agency, continuing the family legacy with dedication and vision. In 1986, David successfully oversaw the purchase the Hollinger-Cutillo Agency, expanding the agency’s relationship with Westfield Insurance.
Over the decades, David became known not only for his expertise in insurance but also for his warmth, humor, and unwavering commitment to his clients. It was this foundation of personal care, treating every client like family that helped build the trust that clients have placed in Dumbaugh Insurance for generations.
Building a Community Legacy
Outside of the office, David has always been an active and devoted member of the community. He is a 50-year member of the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club and a proud recipient of the Legion of Honor for his decades of service. He was also a member of the Fredericktown Lions Club, where he was honored with the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow Award. In addition, David has been involved with the Mount Vernon Jaycees, the Knox County Chamber of Commerce, and has served as a Charter Member of the Heritage Centre Association in Mount Vernon since 1991.
A Family Tradition Continues
The legacy of trust David built remains strong. Today, that commitment is proudly carried on by his sons, John Dumbaugh and Joe Dumbaugh, and nephew, Mark Dumbaugh. They continue the family tradition, ensuring Dumbaugh Insurance provides the same trusted service and care that Clarence Dumbaugh started and David so successfully nurtured.
As David enters this next chapter, we celebrate not only his remarkable career but also the countless lives he has touched. While we’ll miss his warmth and wisdom in the office, we look forward to him enjoying time with his family, fishing, watching football and baseball, and perhaps finally having a little time to relax, a well-earned reward for a life built on dedication and trust.”
